The Proposal Story

Matt’s very short and sweet story for the dudes:

I wanted to let you all know that on March 29, 2008 I proposed to Jessica. I surprised her with a trip to San Francisco and I asked for her hand in downtown SF (Union Square). She said yes!!!

We’re excited to plan everything and begin the next chapter of our lives together.

Jessica’s more detailed story for the romantics:

Of course, being the romantic, perfectionist that he is, each and every detail of Matt’s marriage proposal was the most special, sentimental, creative, and beautiful possible:

On Friday March 28, 2008 Matt sent two dozen multi-colored spring roses to my office on Friday, with a note reading “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear flowers in your hair” and saying to pack my bags.

San Francisco has been one of our favorite cities to visit and we have made it an annual weekend December holiday trip over the past few years.

We got to the city early Saturday morning and went to our favorite historic restaurant (John’s Grill) for lunch. Afterward we walked around the city a bit enjoying the spring flowers, music, and friendly people. There happened to be an annual flower and art festival in downtown Union Square so we sat in one of our favorite park spots in the sun to enjoy people watching. As we were relaxing and talking Matt began to reach for his backpack he was carrying around.

He presented me with a special book that he made of memories with many of our photos that he had collected and made into a picture storybook with a story line that he wrote on each page about a captain (on a sailboat) searching for his perfect mate and a beautiful princess searching at the same time. The story goes through the many places that we have travelled together with the line at the end of the book ”I am putting all of my chips on the table….” (with a picture of him at a poker table on a cruise). Then, the second to last page shows him with a life vest on where it reads “will you sail away with me and begin the journey together?” and the proposal question on the final page!!!

At the same time, he presented me with a really beautiful custom ring that he selected all on his own. After the proposal, we noticed that there were several people gathered around us watching and cheering.

I had thought that the book was definitely the most thoughtful and creative gift that I have ever received, as I read through the perfect scrapbook that he made, but did not expect a proposal question in the book at the end!!!

After that, we went and got ready for dinner and he took me to the “Top of the Mark“, a nice historic restaurant in San Francisco with amazing sunset views of the full city. We had a relaxing cocktail hour and then an excellent dinner and danced all night to the live jazz band!!

Responses

  1. Thanks for the update, Jessica. Actually we will be leaving Bozeman on the 20th, heading for San Diego and our usual “campout at the beach” with friends. We won’t make it to your wedding, but we sure wish you all the best in the years to come. Hugs, Jack and Kay Levitt

  2. OMG!!! What a beautiful story. I’m all teary eyed. Yes, I’m still as sappy as ever! I am so happy for the two of you.
